Mid-century modern or MCM for short is an influential American movement not only in interior design but also in products, graphics, architecture, and urban development. It was popular from about the 1940s to the 1970s during the post-WWII period. The MCM design appearance is based on improvements in style and construction to make them optimal, this movement is also aligned with the period of modernism.

MCM furniture is usually easy to recognize by its particular appearance, these include clean and simple shapes, decent use of materials, and usually do not have any "useless" details to beautify the furniture itself, usually, they only have the necessary elements in one way esthetic.

That said, it's pretty obvious how influential mid-century style still is, even if decades have passed since the MCM came into being, this has involved timeless creations that have made them continue to reign supreme in contemporary interiors, including pieces like chairs, lighting, coffee. tables and much more.

Michel Ducaroy - Togo Sofa

Michel Ducaroy was born in 1925, he was part of furniture makers and family designers whose handle private houses and larger-scale contracts such as exhibitions, official buildings, and so on. He learned at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, and in the family business designs basics before converting to an independent designer in 1952.

The reason for his rapid recognition was due to contact with the Roset company in 1954, in which he became an important integral designer of the aforementioned company. Michel Ducaroy created different pieces but one of the most relevant was the Togo sofa, this is a piece that has been known for more than forty years for being a revolutionary and highly ergonomic sofa. It's made with padded, multi-density bedspreads, providing comfortable support for anyone.

Florence Knoll - Armchair

Florence Knoll is the definition of real feminism, she is a furniture designer and architect who is also a very important influence on the mid-century style that revolutionized the entire interior design office with her pieces. She enrolled at Kingswood School and eventually the Cranbrook Academy of Art, where she learned the theory related to furniture and buildings.

One of the most famous creations of this amazing designer is the Florence Knoll chair, which is an iconic and quite vintage chair that reflects a warm and luxurious vibe. It has upholstered in leather with an astonishing aesthetic, visually welcoming.

Mario Bellini - Camaleonda

This is our last designer from our list, Mario Bellini is an “an Italian architect and designer. He graduated from the Milan Polytechnic - Faculty of Architecture in 1959 and began working as an architect himself in the early 1960s”.

His most important furniture creation is Camaleonda, also known as the Mario Bellini sofa. This is a great example of a combination of comfort and modernism.
