If You Have Dark Mid-Century Furniture You Should Follow These Tips To Lighten Up Space

When having dark furniture, just like the Togo sofa of the example below, sometimes is normal to feel that space seems quite obscure or there is no way to turn it into a bright place. But let me tell you that there are more options than you may think. I’m not talking about swapping sofas or reupholstering furniture because we all know how expensive this may be. I’m talking about embracing your dark pieces and apply a few tricks and accessories in order to completely transform your place with the perfect grounding complements.
Try to contrast with flooring and rugs
This is perhaps the trick I personally have found more useful. Contrasting dark furniture with lighter flooring is the key to brighten up the whole space.
A cool-toned, blonde wood flooring is the recipe for a balancing contrast, it also carries the light from the doors around the room.
Now, if you are not able to contrast with a blonde wood flooring you can try with a colorful rug. A rug is also a great way to brighten up space by adding at the same time some character to the living room. Great hack huh!
Let’s take a look at this example where the predominance of dark furniture is very notable.
In the picture above you can see that there are more than two dark furniture pieces and still the space looks wide and bright. The key is in the tone of the floor, you can notice that the designer used a neutral color according to the walls. In addition, you can see his audacity when daring to place such a colorful and striking rug. This last action was fully intentional in order to highlight both dark brown Togo sofas.
Don’t think they are boring and opt for white walls
People often get to think that white is too boring or makes the room looks dead, and it’s not! Don’t be afraid to paint white your walls. The secret is warming them up, and dark furniture does exactly that. Pull the white throughout the room through bedding and accessories, and play with the white shades.
Plus! Add some artwork or nice framed posters in order to show a bit of your personality.
Nothing will make your dark furniture bounce back to life than pairing it with complementary colors. Deep blues and purples sofas will pop against oranges and yellows, as proven by this sofa paired with yellow floral drapery.
Dress your shelves and furniture
The shelves are also a great way to help in your way of brightening up the home interior design. One of the tips you can follow is to paint them with light and cool colors. If you paint the inside part with a contrasting color, the colorful items kept there could pop out.
Plus! Don’t forget about the plants. They are always welcome to the interior of the house because they bring a calm vibe.
