The Most Popular Furniture Trends, by State
Posted by SJ on Feb 18th 2021
As it does every year, Living Spaces published its annual survey with the catch up of the favorite furniture trends in America, by State.
This survey results are quite interesting, because it allows you to take a look on how the trends are moving, and why are several local trends with more strength than others. Lets take a look.
Industrial
One surprise when comparing it with the year 2019, Industrial resulted in one of the most favorite trends in 2020, in States like Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
Boho
As a common phenomenal for all south east, Industrial is not taken in account on these states.
Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawai’i, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Dakota & Virginia, are all regions where a more easy going culture is settled and it reflects in choosing styles like Boho.
Coastal Living
As part of the South West line, the States of Delaware, Florida, Rhode Island, South Carolina are logically more inclined to a Coastal way of life. It's kind of a set back comparing it with the last year, when Coastal Living was all around and it appeared as a major force.
Contemporary
One interesting result, if you take in consideration that the more especialized the style, the more popular it is (Think about Industrial Style or Mid Century Modern in the past years).
Nevada, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey are the states where this trend, that turns to be somehow generic, was the most popular.
Farmhouse
A very popular choice, some times associated to Rustic Style, or Country (though they are not the same). Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, West Virginia, Wyoming, are the States when it seems to be the favorite. There is a natural inclination due culture and geographic elements, that naturally drive some States to this range of styles. Is really interesting to observe that colder states go for minimalist, formal trends, like industrial, and warmer states go for more diverse, eclectic styles.
Mid Century Modern & Scandinavian
Two styles with a lot of stuff in common. Very alike principles; minimalism as a mantra; and designers considered from both styles by their enthusiasts, like Hans Wegner and his Shell Chair; both Mid Century Modern and Scandinavian have been in the America's interior landscape for a long time nosssw, and apparently they will be for a lot more. Now they are the most popular trend in Nebraska, Oregon, Washington (Mid Century Modern); and California & Colorado (Scandinavian). So, we can count on see the Barcelona Chair still for a while.
