Le Corbusier, who was a painter, writer and architect, demonstrated in these areas his strong ideals for the correct application of modern materials and construction methods. He believed that this had to be the foundation for optimizing and improving the living conditions of citizens who live in treated cities.

These principles, along with other fundamentals, were what helped make Le Corbusier such an influential architect today. Today we will show you his furniture collection and some buildings that will amaze you! Grab your coffee and start sliding down!

The Le Corbusier collection

The Le Corbusier furniture collection is one of his greatest creations, which shows that the characteristics of simplicity, elegance and comfort combined can become functional and iconic pieces.

The Le Corbusier chair or LC2 sofa was made in 1928, and it was presented for the first time at the Salon d'Automne in Paris. An interesting fact about the LC collection is that Le Corbusier had two collaborators who were also architects; they were Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret (Le Corbusier's cousin). Thanks to these two architects Le Corbusier not only started its involvement with furniture design, but also created the perfect representation of modernism.

Within the LC collection, the main pieces that are more remarkables are the LC2 sofa and the LC4 lounge chair.

LC2 sofa features

This modern chair is very recognized for its attractive and flashy steel chrome coated frame. It is basically a “base grate and three tubular steel profiles with a circular cross-section”. The attractive frame is made by only one tube which involves the whole chair.

Regarding the cushions, the LC2 sofa has five cushions in total that are made of multi-density composite foam resulting in the greatest place to sit and forget about the problems of the day. I mean, just take a look at its shapes and comfy cushions, don’t you want to sit on it?

Regarding the other iconic furniture piece, the LC4 chaise lounge, was a revolutionary piece that was sculpted to perfectly fit the human body. Le Corbusier described this chair as “extensions of our limbs and adapted to human functions.”

Le Corbusier buildings creations

This particular architect used revolutionary materials at the time, which were based on concrete, glass, and metal. This together with technological foundations allowed him to renew the landscape of many urbanizations, making them more optimal and more livable. One of the most famous buildings are the following:

  • Villa Savoye, Poissy.
  • Notre Dame du Haut, Romchamp.
  • La Roche-Jeanneret Project, Paris.
