Charlotte Perriand’s iconic genius brought to life on MHD’s Swivel Armchair

Posted by Manhattan Home Design on Jan 7th 2019

If you are looking to buy some furniture inspired by the creations of Le Corbusier, Manhattan Home Design might just be the right place for you. Today we’re presenting one of our most beloved items, the Swivel Armchair, a reinterpretation of LC’s LC7 armchair, which he created in conjunction with Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand. This one is actually attributed to Perriand directly, who was a prolific furniture designer on her own right.

The LC7 chair is extremely striking and beautiful. It is not meant to be a lounge chair, but rather a sort of luxurious dining chair with living room applications. Even though it follows the design concept of Le Corbusier’s LC line, you can appreciate Perriand’s touch and final say if you know where to look for it. First and foremost, the  swivel itself is already an indicator on a different designer’s mind at work, one that is most concerned with functionality and build because they know the aesthetic principles are already perfect (and don’t need to be changed).

Features, specifications, and price

Charlotte Perriand designed this small chair for her apartment in Paris somewhere around 1927. The metalwork and upholstery were unprecedented for the era, and Le Corbusier’s hand helped to consolidate it as one of the best designs from the early mid-century period. The frame is made out of trivalent polished CR3 steel, which is chrome plated, and the upholstery is full-grain, semi-aniline leather of the best quality.

For $716.40 you’d be getting a perfect accent chair for a minimalist or mid-century-inspired space, preferably a living room or bedroom, as we’ve mentioned. This chair is not bulky nor too big, and the cushioning is CFC-free polyurethane foam with polyester wadding, which is extremely comfortable on its own (especially when it’s encased by leather).
