Decorating a house on your own requires detailed planning where several factors must be taken into account. However, due to the many rules that exist within the interior design world, it is sometimes difficult to determine if you are on the right track or if you are really doing things in the most optimal way possible, that is why today we have collected the most common errors when decorating a house in any style, including the mid-century one.

Choosing the furniture before the decoration style

This is a fairly common mistake! Normally when we are starting to decorate the house, it is quite likely that you will get excited and start buying home accents, chairs or furniture overnight, but this should not be the case. A prior planning is necessary where you first define the style of furniture that you will place in your house. For example, in case you choose mid-century, you should know that these pieces are usually identified by preferring functionality above appearance, having organic lines, showing shades of dark and caramel wood, among others.

A perfect example of mid-century modern optimal furniture pieces is the iconic Egg chair, which is an icon recognized worldwide by many designers and professionals in the area. That being said, you can see pieces for inspiration, but remember, before buying any product, plan!

Over Decoration with unnecessary accessories

Unless you are a fan of maximalism, try not to overload your walls or corners with accessories. Remember that the mid-century style has many minimalist influences, where although it is attractive, it does not need the placement of many elements to make it look stylish and elegant. Also, when placing many accessories in a space, you can get overwhelmed and lose the essence of your design, let's see an example of an overloaded decoration:

As you can see, there are also items of different sizes all over the place that make you feel uncomfortable. There are also too many patterns on the floor and walls, which means that you cannot focus your eyes on any element but rather get lost and overwhelmed in understanding its design ... So, avoid this!

Only one color and material

The point of creating your own design is that you let your creativity flow! Do not opt for a single color or a single material because you can fall into monotony and overmatch, instead, try to place different sizes of furniture strategically. Also, you can use different materials, such as wood and steel, and you can even mix and match styles. One of the styles that combines perfectly with the mid-century is the Scandi. Both have quite similar fundamentals and designers are constantly using it simultaneously.

Here you can see different colors and accents.
