Essential Considerations That Every Minimalist Should Have Home Decoration

Check how a Le Corbusier sofa, neutral colors and more considerations will help you to create a minimalist home.

Minimalism is a movement that has had a lot of influence on the styles we know today. This movement has been formed through the contribution of different designers and artists, obtaining certain rules or characteristics that we will talk about in this blog.

Minimalism is based on only having the necessary basics, there is even a famous phrase which you can easily understand what minimalism it is based on, this phrase says the following: "Less is more". This phrase was created by one of the pioneers within this movement: Mies van der Rohe and what he meant is that you don't need to either have a lot of items stacked together and you need to over-decorate. As long as you have what is strictly necessary and a clean concept, it will be enough.

Within the world of interior design certain rules and elements are shared that you must take into account when wanting to enter yourself and your spaces within this movement. These are as follows:

Minimalist furniture

Furniture is a key piece to achieve a minimalist home. These pieces are the ones that usually give meaning and function to spaces, so you should choose them with caution. When selecting your furniture pieces, consider to choose simple and stylish pieces that are based on the functionality.

The elements you can include within your living room, for example, can be:

  • Sofa.
  • Loveseat or armchair.
  • Coffee table.
  • Cabinet.
  • TV.
  • Lamp.
  • And the other element you need for purposes related to living room functions.

Now, how can you determine if a sofa or loveseat fits the minimalist fundamentals? Well, these pieces must be -as we mentioned earlier- as simple as possible, have clean lines and use durable materials to be able to have them for a long period of time. A great example of minimalist furniture is the Le Corbusier sofa and chair. Le Corbusier specialized in this subject and designed these pieces with the aim that they were the most optimal and functional for the user. They are upholstered in aniline leather and filled with high-density foam.

Clear floors and walls

Regarding the floors, these must be completely clean, they should only contain the furniture that we mentioned above. Nothing should be stacked or left on the floor for storage. So try to clear the whole area at home that you don't have it. The same with the walls, there are extreme minimalists which have absolutely nothing hanging, however depending on your style you can hang a painting or photo, but try to avoid accessories on the wall.

Choose neutral colors

A good way to create a large, clean illusion is to paint in bright, light colors such as white, beige, etc. These colors not only help create an open design, but are also used as a trick on strategically chosen walls to appear larger than it is.
