Having trouble with small spaces? Don’t worry, I’ve been in that position too, and the Manhattan Home Design and I wanted to help you in your way of dealing with this kind of problem. The following information is a compilation that I personally have implemented due to the small apartment where I’ve spent a large period of time. If you know New York, you may know how small those places can be so is completely needed to be creative and implement some professional techniques to take advantage of the dimensions you have.
By selecting mid-century modern pieces like an LC3 sofa or adding a wall of mirrors you can easily create an illusion of a bigger space, today we are going to show specific steps that you must follow whenever you want to feel in a larger space than it really is. Scroll down to see helpful tips!
The LC3 sofa is a classic and versatile piece
The LC3 sofa is a design made by one of the most beloved designers of the modernist movement; Le Corbusier. He was a very complete artist and designer where the pieces that he created had the characteristic of having an optimal and functional structure, common in many articles within this movement.
This specific sofa is perfect for small places for many reasons, the first is because it is a versatile item where it can easily fit into multiple styles such as industrial, minimalist, mid-century, and obviously; modernist. The second reason is because of the spacious structure that feels like it is welcoming you and helps you create that open concept you want for the room.
Add multipurpose spaces
This is essential when you have small spaces because you will need to take advantage of every meter of the area and to support this objective you must add multipurpose spaces. To do this you will only need to use the surrounding walls to your advantage, for example, let's imagine you have your own home office in one room and you are not using most of the space, if that is the case you can easily add shelves on top and If possible, you can even add a sofa or bed for guests. In short, you will have a space to relax, a place to work from home, and a place to entertain.
Add large mirrors
This is perhaps one of my favorite and most useful tips because the result they create is incredible. By strategically positioning long mirrors on the floor, you can create focal points that reflect the rooms and make visiting people, and even you, unconsciously think that there is space behind them. Definitely, an important tip to implement and super useful!
In addition, you can also add wall art strategically to also create focal points when you want to draw the attention of the eyes of the visitors.
