Main Principles To Arrange Your Modern Furniture | EASY Rules

Posted by Gabriela Martinez on Jan 31st 2021

Choosing the elements that go inside a living room or any other room is a challenging task. What comes after that process can be even more difficult. With "after" we refer to the arrangement of the elements of the space to be decorated. This other process or stage can become a stone in the shoe because we will find persistent doubts about whether we are objectively positioning the furniture or accessories that we have acquired well.

Because of this, we have decided to accompany you in this process and teach you the fundamental rules that will make you create an optimal space with the modern sofa and other furniture pieces that you have chosen.

Shape the space according to your daily routine

Stop and consider your tasks of the day to create the flow you want for the room. Before placing any element within the living room or space you are decorating, think about how you are going to use the space and the purpose itself. If for example, you are decorating your living room, create a list with all the activities you’ll do inside of it and then write the furniture and electronic devices you need for the room.

Normally a living room is a place to interact and entertainment so don’t forget to add the following elements:

  • A comfortable sofa: this should av the perfect size for your family members. If you have a large number of members you can opt for a Le Corbusier sofa (LC3). Instead, if you have a small number, opt for an LC2 sofa.
  • TV.
  • Armchairs or lounge chairs.
  • Rugs and curtains.
  • Coffee table.
  • Lamp.

Avoid placing furniture against the walls

This is perhaps one of the most frequent mistakes that people do when arranging their furniture, especially with modern sofas. So, in order to keep an optimal furniture arrangement try to pay attention to your room dimension. The size of it will help you to know how much space you need to leave between the back of the furniture and the wall.

Too! Don't think that even though you have a small space, you don't have to leave that little space between the wall and the furniture, in fact, this simple detail is one of the factors that makes the room feel spacious.

Balance and create good proportions

Balance is a must when decorating and it’s very needed when arranging furniture. To maintain a good balance you will need to consider the size and the position of the elements. Make sure you don't incorporate all the small elements in one place or all the big ones on one side. Try balancing with different sizes and shades.

This is also important with shapes. For example, if you select a modern sofa like the Le Corbusier sofa LC2, try to opt for a rounded table. Why? Because as the sofa straight lines, you can balance that shape with a curved element.
