Putting together a simple and cozy mid-century bedroom
Posted by Manhattan Home Design on Dec 10th 2018
Introducing the mid-century modernist style into your house can be a daunting experience, but there’s a lot you can do with very little, if you know how to juggle both simplicity and comfort. A mid-century modernist bedroom is a very cozy and neutral place, with an inherently calm atmosphere.
How can I put the mid-century touch into my bedroom?
First and foremost, think about the bed and where it’s placed. If you have a central bed, this article is for you, if you have a corner bed, you might have some trouble getting along with it. Now that we’re all set, let’s take a look at two elements that are must-haves in any mid-century bedroom.
Suggested Item: Addison King Wood Bed
First, we have nightstands. Some people choose not to include them, but they are an intrinsic part of the mid-century style. Usually bought in pairs, modernist nightstands are completely square-shaped and have small, skinny legs. They also don’t have more than two drawers, in most cases.
Secondly, we have sideboards (also called dressers). These items became very popular during the golden years of the mid-century modernist style, later becoming one of its most significant furniture categories. Modernist sideboards usually follow design patterns similar to that of the nightstands.

Purchasing a bedroom set
If you’re finding it hard to choose between nightstands, beds, sideboards, and lamps, you might want to go ahead and purchase a bedroom set, which might help you organize your living space with a little bit more freedom.
Online retailers usually include them after their regular furniture. Manhattan Home Design has a modest selection of bedroom sets, but the one that embodies the true feeling of a mid-century bedroom has to be their “Addison” selection.
Starting at $1,680 for a 2-piece set, the Addison collection includes a wide bed with a simple fabric headboard in a light ceramic tone. The accompanying sideboard and nightstands, however, seem to be made out of dark, walnut wood. Contrast is very important in mid-century spaces.
Suggested Item: Freja 3 Piece Fabric Bedroom Set
The Addison collection offers up to 5-pieces including a large mirror to be hanged above one of the big sideboards. The nightstands are of excellent quality and smaller than it looks on the pictures. This makes the room seem a lot bigger, and makes the organizing process much easier.
