Finn Juhl 1955 Sideboard: a Story of Success and Talent
Finn Juhl was born on January 30, 1912, in Frederiksberg, Denmark. From an early age, he wanted to become an art historian and later he was accepted in the architecture program at the School of Architecture of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where after studying between 1930 and 1934 with renowned figures such as Kay Fisker, he graduated as an architect. After that, he worked for ten years in the architecture studio of Vilhelm Lauritzen, where he continued to acquire knowledge. Thanks to his valuable work as the interior design of the Danish national radio station Danmarks Radio's Radio Building, in 1943 he received the Hansen Prize for young architects.
In addition to his architectural works, his furniture designs became legendary and iconic. The lines of his modernist chairs emulated organic forms that brought the wood to the limit of the possible. Over time, Finn Juhl became virtually the best known interior and industrial designer for his furniture designs in the 1940s and who introduced the Danish Modern in America.
