Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, creator of the Barcelona Chair, definitely left a remarkable impression in the world of Interior Design, and Architecture. We can say without a doubt that he changed our the way we see our cities and the way we see our houses. Let's take a look at some of its more recognized influences, by their own words:
In a year so early as 1938, the great Frank Lloyd Wright was really generous in its words to praise Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in its new role as Director of the Architecture Program in the Armour Institute of Technology, in Chicago, Illinois. In its introduction to the auditorium, Lloyd Wright said: "I admire him as an architect, respect and love him as a man. Armour Institute, I give you my Mies van der Rohe. You treat him well and love him as I do. He will reward you".
Several years later, in 1941, one of the most famous alumni of Armour got its Bachelor's degree in Architecture. It was Florence Knoll. The face and soul of this legendary design house only had kind words for her mentor, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, as his most influential academic figure. Needless to say, years later she was the one who bought the rights to manufacture the magnificent Barcelona Chair.
Much more recently, nowadays, the recognized designer Virgil Abloh, was reported by the famed magazine Deezer in a recent fashion show of this artist. Virgil Abloh is the Artistic Director for Men's of Louis Vuitton. As part of the Paris Fashion Week, they chose the Barcelona Pavilion for a crowd-free fashion show, and he had very kind words for the creator of the Barcelona Chair, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe: "Mies is my other Michael Jordan" affirmed. At the scenery of the fashion show, several Barcelona Chairs were spotted, in the scenary of the Barcelona Pavilion.
Abloh studied in the Illinois Institute of Technology, where Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was head of the department of architecture from the 1940s to the 1950s, and designed the Crown Hall.
Even in the field of automobile design, the legacy of men like Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Frank Lloyd Wright and Eero Saarinen is far beyond architecture, and it spreads in many fields of the human knowledge. Arts and Design are of course its main area of influence. That's what Josh Greiner, Interior Designer of the Mustang Mach-E, states in a recent interview.
The fascination of Josh Greiner with Mid Century Modern, and the work of genius like L. Mies van der Rohe, doesn't have to do only with furniture. Even its architectural master pieces are part of the influence in the design of the Mustang Mach. Lafayette Park, one of the greatest work of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, has marveled Greiner since he met it.
