The Shell chair wasn’t an instant success
Although the Shell chair is worldwide recognized as being a popular option within many styles, including minimalist, mid-century, modernism, etc. It wasn't always like this! At its first release it wasn’t a hit, in fact, quite the opposite. Due to aerodynamic and revolutionized design, it took 35 years for people to start loving this chair and embracing its main attractives.
Hans Wegner approved this design after multiple reviews
Most people might think that creating a piece of furniture or any other work of art does not require much effort, but Hans' detailed works prove the opposite. For this designer a furniture piece should be a beautiful object from any perspective, even from behind or upside down, basically it should look good from every angle.
He dedicated a lot of time of his life perfecting and making a kind of sculpting designs. That is why you see that the Shell chair has that particular form that you won’t find in any other place.
Plus! Another interesting fact behind this product creation is that Wegner was so committed to his work that his daughter who work with fim alleges that he never took a vacation
The Plywood is responsible of its curved structure
In the previous paragraph we talked about the commitment that Wegner had when he was in his way of creating the chair structure. Now, the curious fact is that those organic curved lines were all a result of molding a plywood piece, a process that was pioneered by American designer Charles. It consists of layers of walnut plywood with oak veneer molded into the desired shape. A span of the chair, with its wing-like parabolic form is the remarkable characteristic of the Wegner's chair.
