Top trends Mid Century Modern Bedrooms in 2020

Posted by SJ on Jan 30th 2020

2020 is already here. For some this is the end of a decade, but for others is already the beginning of a new one. Either as an end or a beginning, the world of fashion and design is taking note of the major changes that comes with the change of epoque, and our bedrooms will receive for sure some of this influence, in design and furniture.

Autumn in Milan

As it is custom in the world of fashion, already in the autumn of 2019 the expectations were setting for 2010, in the Milan Design Week 2019 . This show, is without a doubt the most prestigious design event in Europe, and certainly one of the most influential worldwide. So, when it comes to furniture and décor trends, it’s a must to see it.

What are the main trends for our bedroom’s furniture?

Year after year the markets of Interior Design fall over the omnipresence of three style forces: Mid Century Modern Furniture; Scandinavian; and Rustic-Country. Mid Century Modern Furniture is still live and in good health; somehow balanced with the still hugely popular Scandinavian and the always traditional Country. In every style trend, though, there is a growing need for using more and more natural materials : different types of wood, just like elements of copper and bronze. This is going to be a more eclectic year.

Greener and bigger. Big plants in your space are welcome in this 2020. That means, much more than the traditional flower plant hanging from a shelf, or above a tulip table. Even in spaces like bedrooms there are an urge for non-traditional plants. If we want a greener planet, let’s start by a greener house.

Besides, at the moment there were big expectations with the return of marble as material. Tables, walls, bathrooms, and of course, the floor itself; they all are considered as a good place to locate marble. One innovation in the field: the green marble appeared in the autumn of 2020 and became the sensation of the season. Again, it’s up the market to see if the expectations with this stone will fulfill in 2020.

The use of metal surfaces, either as wall art, or with sculpture objects was considered a trend to come in 2020. Copper and bronze were considered the ideal choices, because of its texture and colors, very mixable with wood and with styles like Mid Century Modern and Rustic.

And 6 months later…

According to several trustable sources, like Elle, and The Spruce , to name a few, we can make a recount of what is definitely here and what’s out, for this year.

Blue classic. Pantone has released their choice for color of the year, blue classic. This choice indicates us another pattern to watch in 2020. A palette of blue choices, one color associated with calm, natural and more peaceful vibrations. So, our color choices in furniture must be in somewhere in between green (Nature) and Blue. Once again, the sober and neutral color palette of Mid Century Modern Furniture is an advantage to consider it as a choice of décor.

“Nature find its ways”. The “green trend” is definitely here to stay. You can see it not only in the widespread of green plants over the different surfaces of the house, but in the materials in every piece possible of furniture: chairs, sofas, beds, kitchen and so on. The use of wood, is every time much more appreciated. In the rise there are several types of wood like rattan, wicker, such as the materials used in modern French furniture.

This extended use of plants and wood has taken us not only to a more natural home in the inside of our houses, but in our conscience, too: A more eco friendly way to consume our décor is on the way. Recycling materials, and traceability of the woods, looking for green certificates is they are available.

In other topic, at the beginning of 2020 there is a surprising revival of the French Modern Furniture in the styles in vogue. Looking for a more variety in the balance of styles, the curve design and materials of the new French school of furniture are raising eyebrows. This hints us to consider that some need for variety and new stylish elements are in demand, among the consolidated Mid Century Modern, Scandinavian and Rustic.

Mirrors. Lately, mirrors were a little relegated in the elements of décor, basically restrained to our bedrooms or bathrooms, but now mirrors are getting back. But now, its useful purpose is complemented with “organic frames”; this is, green plants, live frames as another way to bring nature back in our places.

Curve lines. As a natural consequence of the elements previously described, it is obvious that curved designs, curve shapes are in vogue. Our furniture, tables, nightstands, TV stands, benches are taking note of it, and we are seeing it every time more frequently.

Bedrooms furniture: Nightstands, Stands, Chests

Our bedroom is definitely the main room in our house. It's our first refuge when we feel sick. The place that finds us in our most intimate and vulnerable moments. So, it’s really important to have some basic furniture and accessories at the reach of our hand. This has to be a well-balanced effort, since too many furniture and objects in the same room can be disturbing elements of a relaxed environment and a good rest. The proper furniture will help you to keep a place comfortable, with your essential belongings in a safe place.

Besides our beloved bed, what are the essential furniture elements we should have in a bedroom? Of course, side tables. But just side tables? Maybe is good to get some definitions clear.

Generally speaking, we refer to our tables like sidetables. Reality is that a single table, with no drawers is called night table. This is, a little table used basically to save a couple of things before going to bed: a book, cellphone, and a table lamp. A nightstand, on the other hand, is a table with at least one drawer and space for storage. That allows you to save more personal belongings, like, your cellphone charger, medicines, among others. Today, the Nightstand concept has grown, and it has more drawers and more space to clothes and everything you need to keep in a safe place, with a sense of elegance and style.
