Top trends Mid Century Modern sofas and Interior Design in 2020

What were the expectations in Modern Furniture in 2019?

2020 is already here, and what an entrance! Modern Furniture, Interior Design, and our beloved sofas are for sure taking note of the evolution of the market and the preferences of the public.

What were the expectations in Modern Furniture in 2019?

Already in August 2019 the Milan Design Week 2019; the most prestigious design event in Europe, and certainly one of the most influential worldwide; showed us some hints to keep tracking the rest of the year.

The big style trends in Interior Design remained, very close in popularity. Mid Century Modern Furniture is still live and in good health; somehow balanced with the still hugely popular Scandinavian and the always traditional Country. In every style trend, there is a growing need for using more and more natural materials: different types of wood, just like elements of copper and bronze.

Besides, at the moment there were big expectations with the return of marble as material. Tables, walls, bathrooms, and of course, the floor itself; they all are considered as a good place to locate marble. One innovation in the field: the green marble appeared in the autumn of 2020 and became the sensation of the season. Again, it’s up the market to see if the expectations with this stone will fulfill in 2020.

A more natural place. Big plants are welcomed in this 2020. That means, much more than the traditional flower plant hanging from a shelf, or at the top of flower pot above a tulip table. Much more green, much more size and extension in the surface of your space. If we want a greener planet, let’s start by a greener house.

The use of metal surfaces, either as wall art, or with sculpture objects was considered a trend to come in 2020. Copper and bronze were considered the ideal choices, because of its texture and colors, very mixable with wood and with styles like Mid Century Modern and Rustic.

Now that we are in 2020 already, what is trending and what is not?

As usual, what we consider trendy in some point of the year, is maybe no longer just 6 months later, and some elements unexpected may become a hit in just that period of time. According to several trustable sources, like Elle, and The Spruce, to name a few, we can make a recount of what is definitely here and what’s out, for this year.

“Nature find its ways”. Just like the famous quote of the mathematician Ian Malcolm in the film “Jurassic Park”, the need for a harmonic balance between our personal belongings and furniture, and a much greener habitat is every time deeper.

You can see it not only in the widespread of green plants over the different surfaces of the house, just like we said before, but in the materials in every piece possible of furniture: chairs, sofas, beds, kitchen and so on. The use of wood, is every time much more appreciated. In the rise there are several types of wood like rattan, wicker, such as the materials used in modern French furniture.

This extended use of plants and wood has taken us not only to a more natural home in the inside of our houses, but in our conscience, too: A more responsible way to buy and decore, taking care of elements outside the décor, just like origin of the natural resources, the recycle as integral part of the manufacture, and in general, an echo friendly approach to the impact of our preferences in Interior Design.

In other topic, there is a surprising revival of the French Modern Furniture in the styles in vogue. Looking for a more variety in the balance of styles, the curve design and materials of the new French school of furniture are raising eyebrows and this hints us to consider that some need for variety and new stylish elements are in demand, besides the consolidated Mid Century Modern, Scandinavian and Rustic.

Mirrors. Lately, mirrors were a little relegated in the elements of décor, basically restrained to our bedrooms or bathrooms, but now mirrors are getting back. But now, its useful purpose is complemented with “organic frames”; this is, green plants, live frames as another way to bring nature back in our places.

Blue classic. Pantone has released their choice for color of the year, blue classic. This choice indicates us another pattern to watch in 2020. A palette of blue choices, one color associated with calm, natural and more peaceful vibrations. So, our color choices in furniture must be in somewhere in between green (Nature) and Blue. Once again, the sober and calm palette of Mid-Century Modern Furniture is an advantage to consider it as a choice of décor.

Curve lines. As a natural consequence of the elements previously described, it is obvious that curved designs, curve shapes are in vogue. Our furniture, not only sofas and chairs, but lamps, kitchen, storage solutions, are taking note of it, and we are seeing it every time more frequently. A tulip table, an Arco Lamp, an Barcelona Chair, with its soft, rounded shapes show us that Mid Century Modern furniture is still harmonic with this trend.
