Design notes from the Barcelona Chair: WFH
Posted by SJ on Apr 12th 2021
Many people, unexpectedly, found their selves working from home, WFH, through all 2021. This situation generated a pressure on the places used to work in their houses. From one spot with some facilities to work for a couple of hours per month, it turned to be the main space for working and stay on a daily basis.
For most of the regular homes, a regular office is a small space contentive of one desk, one chair, some storage facilities and maybe a printer in a separate table. It maybe it looks fine, but there are some often poorly considered elements that require a second though:
1. Lighting.
If the spot we use to work from home is improvised, it is very probably to see that lighting is one typical failure. Poor natural light entries or deficient electric supply, may hurt our eyes, even more when our works is regular and daily. At least three points must be considered: enough entry of natural light; a good general electrical lighting of the WFH space; and a convenient task chair in the desk.
2. Ergonomic Chair.
Working from home doesn't mean necessarily be seated in the same chair from 9 to 5. It is desirable using one main chair for regular work, and another to relax and refocus. Your relaxing chair must be a Barcelona Chair, where you can bring your laptop with you, just relax, or even to have some business colleague for a unavoidable meeting.
3. Privacy (Noise cancelling).
The open concept in interior design is still de major force, but some adjustments are now required, since you expect to be on your home working on a regular basis and kids, pets or your very couple around you may distract you. Divider screens, for example, are alternatives.
A good design and ergonomics goes always together. Go to Barcelona Design and you will find the best renditions of master pieces in furniture, like the Barcelona Chair and the Hans Wegner Shell Chair.
