Architecture is the learned game; correct and magnificent of forms assembled in the light
Le Corbusier - Architect & Designer
Le Corbusier was a swiss architect and city planner - a person who sets plans/goals about the use of land in cities - whose designs mix principles of minimalism and functionalism of the modern movement with bold sculptural expressionism.
He was part of the first generation of the international school of architecture and was in charge of becoming famous for his mentions in his multiple writings. He was also the first architect to make studied use of "raw concrete", which refers to a type of traditional plastering that fulfills his taste for asceticism and sculptural forms.
The LC3 sofa, a piece from the LC Collection
Le Corbusier's furniture design career begins in the late 20s when he asked architect Charlotte Perriand to enter his studio, Charlotte was at the time an architect and designer renowned for integrating modern touches into her furniture. The other architect invited to the study was his cousin; Pierre Jeanneret.
These three now icons of architecture, began to build three pieces that result in three chromed tubular steel chairs designed for two of their projects, The Maison la Roche in Paris and a pavilion for Barbara and Henry Church. One of the aforementioned chairs is the one and only LC2 chair that we have already talked about previously on other blogs.
After some time, Le Corbusier decided to extend the collection by creating the LC3 Sofa, which is basically a big version of the LC2 sofa. There are many variations of this sofa on the market, but the one we are presenting today is the Grand LC3 Sofa replica from MHD.
Take a look at this incredible element from the LC Collection!
The LC3 sofa replica is part of the “cushion baskets” collection we mention earlier. The main attraction of this sofa is represented by the external frames which are made of stainless steel, an interesting fact is that the material used and structure still considered as modern.
To be modern is not a fashion, it is a state. It is necessary to understand history, and he who understands history knows how to find continuity between that which was, that which is, and that which will be.
The LC3 sofa is made with a pre-established approach that is to support soft and comfortable cushions while looking totally aesthetic and modern. What makes it extremely comfortable is the structure and materials of the cushions, which are filled with high-density foam.
